Balanced Rationality: Facts matter. While we will rarely have all of them, every decision, and every solution must consider the ones that are available to us. We believe strongly in fundamentals, and chasing the flavor of the day rarely yields long-term results. But we also recognize that in the world of finance, decisions are made and implemented by people, and therefore the best decisions are based on rationale that includes more than formulas and hard logic. They incorporate human behaviour.
Jon Wrathall
Principal
Jon has over 25 years of experience as advisor, consultant and executive at private and public companies with a heavy focus on finance, capital markets, risk management and investor relations, as well as previous experience in human capital management and information technology. In addition to his work with Red Dock Advisors, he is Executive-in-Residence at PwC, and teaches Project Finance as a sessional instructor at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.
He spent over 17 years with TC Energy, previously TransCanada, most recently as a corporate officer and Vice President responsible for all financing and capital markets transactions, fixed income investor relations, syndicate banking relationships, and corporate evaluations.
In his previous leadership roles, he led finance for the $14+ billion Coastal GasLink natural gas pipeline project, and led TC’s Corporate Planning (FP&A) team. He has also held roles in Corporate Finance, Investor Relations and Human Resources.
Prior to joining TransCanada, he held leadership and advisory roles in professional services, including at Ernst & Young where he began his career. Jon is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Masters of Financial Management, both from the University of Alberta.
Core areas of expertise:
- Capital markets issuance including a wide range of financial instruments, including the Canadian and U.S. debt capital markets (both public and private placement), Canadian and cross-listed common equity, mezzanine financing.
- Capital structure optimization at both consolidated and subsidiary levels
- Bank credit, banking relationships and syndicate management
- Credit ratings, ratings assessment processes, and credit rating agency relationships
- Investor relations, including both fixed income and equity
Outside of the office, Jon is passionate about improving his community through volunteering, currently sitting on the Board, Finance Committee and Human Resources Committee at Momentum, a community-based organization reducing poverty through financial empowerment. He previously served as Chair the Board of Directors at a Calgary-based independent school.
